Tiptree Salted Caramel Crumble
Crumbles are a predominant Western dish that can either be savory or sweet. Traditional crumbles have only a few key ingredients: fat (butter), some sort of flour or grain, sugar, and some sort of filling. Crumbles are made by combining the fat, flour, and sugar into a single component and then lining a baking dish with it, adding the filling, and then adding the mixture over the top. The end result is often a savory or sweet dish with delicious crumbly crust.
The crumble as we know it today originated in the UK - specifically Ireland. Ireland being a big "pie" country needed replacement ingredients during World War II, when the supply of traditional pastry ingreients were rationed. As a replacement, people began using other grains such as rolled oats, breadcrumbs, and oatmeal as the crumble mix.
This version of the crumble features Tiptree's Salted Caramel Spread and has plenty of savory flavors combined with apples. It's a great autumn or fall dessert dish. The process for this crumble is relatively easy.
Making the Crumble
Ingredients you’ll need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 1 tbsp of salt (optional)
A crumble is a relatively simple concoction. It's essentially 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 stick butter. You'll want to mix that all together in a mixing bowl leaving small butter chunks in the mix. Once your mixture is incorporated and still a littl bit lumpy, set it aside.
How To Make the Salted Caramel Crumble
Ingredients you’ll need:
- 10 sliced apples
- 1 jar Tiptree Salted Caramel Spread
- Crumble mix
- Brown sugar
Once you're ready to make the crumble, you'll need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Take a baking dish and spread the apples evenly over the baking pan. Warm the caramel spread in the microwave for 20 seconds until it takes a more liquid state. Once warmed, pour the mixture over your apples and make sure it's spread evenly with a knife. Layer the crumble mixture evenly over the top of the caramel spread and then sprinkle some brown sugar over the top.
Place the dish in the over covered and bake it for 20 minutes. Bake it for an additional 10 minutes uncovered until the apples are a golden brown color.
